In the early hours of Sunday, a dramatic scene unfolded at Bar in South St. Louis. An unexpected turn of events occurred when a police SUV, traveling northbound on South Broadway, veered off course and crashed through the bar’s front wall as it was closing. The incident took place around 12:30 a.m. in the Carondelet neighborhood, creating chaos and confusion as patrons and staff scrambled to understand what had just happened.
Following the collision, Bar co-owner Chad Morris found himself in a heated confrontation with law enforcement. According to the police report, Morris reacted by yelling obscenities and allegedly striking an officer, which led to charges of felony assault and misdemeanor resisting arrest. The situation escalated further as Morris attempted to flee, closing a gate on an officer in the process. Meanwhile, James Pence, Morris’s co-owner, claimed that the police’s aggressive behavior only intensified the situation, describing how he was handcuffed after being approached by an officer demanding identification. Pence also noted that Morris was filming the aftermath when officers took him down, adding a layer of controversy to the already tense situation.
