The 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger, an innovative series-hybrid pickup truck, aims to address a significant challenge faced by electric pickups—range reduction when towing or hauling heavy loads. Unlike conventional hybrids, this new model combines a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine solely dedicated to powering a 130-kilowatt electric generator with dual electric motors driven by a substantial 92-kilowatt-hour battery pack. This setup promises up to 141 miles of all-electric driving and an overall range of 690 miles, combining battery and fuel capabilities.
Stellantis engineers chose the series-hybrid design for its practicality and efficiency after testing revealed the limitations of pure electric trucks in real-world towing scenarios. The Ramcharger’s 27-gallon fuel tank, which surpasses the 2024 Ram 1500 Crew Cab’s 26-gallon capacity, ensures quicker refueling compared to the slower process of high-voltage battery recharging. Additionally, the vehicle’s acceleration from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.4 seconds positions it on par with luxury SUVs, while its towing capacity of up to 14,000 pounds and ability to power other devices make it a versatile option for both work and play.
