Introduction and Event Overview
A group of car enthusiasts on their annual coast-to-coast tour voted Stettler the best stop on their 2022 journey. Event organizer Malcolm Fischer, through a Town of Stettler media release, shared that around 100 car enthusiasts began their adventure by dipping their wheels in the Atlantic Ocean at Cupid’s Bay, Newfoundland. The “gruelling” two-month trip saw the group travel from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean, concluding with a wheel dip in the waters of Vancouver Island.
Stettler’s Warm Welcome and Activities
In 2022, knowing two locals, including Fischer, from Stettler, the organizers decided to add the community as a stop on their journey. Upon arrival, the group received the town’s signature “welcome bags” provided by the Board of Trade. The evening included a delightful supper run on the Alberta Prairie Railway Excursion to Big Valley, followed by refreshments served by Mayor Sean Nolls, other council members, and the town administration.
Memorable Experiences and Community Engagement
The following day, the group toured the Stettler P and H Elevator, explored local shops, and admired Scott Savage’s unique car collection. A show and shine event at the Stettler Community Hall featured a performance by Stettler’s own Jazz Guys. The evening concluded with a pig roast and banquet hosted by the Ponoka Piston Poppers car club, supported by local caterers and funded by the Central Alberta Vintage Auto Club, which has several Stettler members.
Recognition and Conclusion
The tour concluded with Stettler being voted the group’s favorite destination, a significant honor acknowledged by participants from all provinces. At the Central Alberta Vintage Auto Club ‘Swap Meet’ in Red Deer, Alberta Coasters representative Warren Rogalsky presented certificates of recognition to the Town of Stettler and lead organizer Malcolm Fischer, who in turn presented the town’s certificate to Mayor Sean Nolls. This accolade highlights Stettler’s exceptional hospitality and community spirit. Way to go, Stettler!
