Witnesses and evidence at the scene indicated that a 2002 Chevrolet Suburban was traveling eastbound on Owens in the left-most lane as it approached Stoker Avenue. Meanwhile, a Regional Transportation Commission Para-Transit bus had stopped in the right-most lane to allow the pedestrian to cross. Despite attempting to evade, the driver of the Chevrolet failed to yield, resulting in the pedestrian being hit while in the crosswalk.

The pedestrian, who remains unidentified, was quickly transported to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities, showing no signs of impairment.
