While the Ram 1500 provides air suspension on all four corners, enhancing its versatility, the Toyota Tundra integrates air springs only on the rear axle, focusing more on towing stability than overall ride comfort.
Pricing and Performance Differences
The Ram 1500 offers an $1,805 air suspension option available on higher trims such as the Big Horn and above, with a base price of $51,980, including destination fees. This system, introduced in 2009, allows the truck to adjust its height by up to four inches, providing both increased ground clearance and easier access. In contrast, the Toyota Tundra’s air suspension is part of a $7,875 package on the SR5 trim, with a total starting at $52,345, and only affects the rear suspension, primarily aimed at improving towing performance.
Value of Air Suspension
While Ram markets its four-corner air suspension as a fuel-efficient upgrade, the real benefits are more about enhancing towing and ride quality rather than fuel savings. The added cost of air suspension, which can approach $2,000, is unlikely to pay off in fuel economy alone. However, both the Toyota and Ram systems offer notable improvements in towing stability and comfort, making them valuable for drivers who prioritize a smoother hauling experience.
