The owners, who were asleep above the bar, were jolted awake by the loud impact around 12:30 a.m. Upon descending, they discovered the police vehicle embedded in the bar’s entrance.

Owner James Pence described the moment of the crash, recalling how the noise initially led him to believe it was a typical vehicle accident. The police reported that the officer behind the wheel swerved to avoid a dog, causing the SUV to veer off course and crash into the building. Fortunately, despite significant damage to the bar’s entrance—bent frames and shattered glass—no injuries were reported.

Driver Freed from Overturned SUV in Route 53 Exit Ramp Crash Near Palatine

In the early hours of December 17, 2023, a single-vehicle rollover took place on the exit ramp from northbound Route 53 to eastbound Palatine Road, near Arlington Heights and Palatine. Responding at 4:22 a.m., Illinois State Police, along with Palatine’s fire and medical teams, arrived to find an SUV on its side with the driver trapped inside.

The driver, who was alone in a Chevy Trailblazer, was quickly rescued by emergency personnel. Fortunately, the driver did not report any serious injuries requiring hospital care. Illinois State Police are looking into the incident, and no information on potential charges or citations has been released yet. Known for its hazardous conditions, the ramp has seen several rollover accidents, with the road being slightly wet and temperatures around 43°F at the time of the crash.

Central Coast DUI crash sends sheriff’s SUV airborne, lands next to ocean

An allegedly intoxicated driver slammed into a Ventura County Sheriff’s patrol SUV Saturday evening, resulting in the vehicle falling onto boulders beside the ocean.

Deputy Castaneda and his K-9, two-year-old Dutch Shepherd Danny, were responding to a call about a suspicious person in the parking lot of seafood restaurant Neptune’s Net, located on Pacific Coast Highway in southwestern Ventura County when an oncoming white sedan struck their patrol SUV, according to the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office.

The patrol vehicle became airborne and landed on large boulders near the shoreline. Castaneda sustained non-life threatening injuries, while Danny sustained a minor cut to his face.

An ambulance transported the deputy and the K-9 to Ventura County Medical Center.

The driver of the white sedan received medical treatment and was then arrested for felony DUI. Deputies booked him in the Ventura County Main Jail.

MINI To Enter Entry Level SUV Realm With Countryman C

The Mini Countryman lineup continues to grow with the addition of the Countryman C, the entry-level gas version.

The new Countryman C comes equipped with a three-cylinder engine. Mini has not mentioned the engine size, but we assume it’s a revamped version of the existing 1.5-liter. It produces an acceptable 170 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque thanks to turbocharging, with mild-hybrid technology providing a 19-hp electric boost. Mini claims the Countryman C can reach 62 mph in 8.3 seconds before reaching a top speed of 132 mph.

Those figures are not particularly exciting, but that’s okay for an entry-level car. With 7.9 inches of ground clearance, the Countryman C should come in handy on rutted roads and farm tracks, although it’s no off-roader.

Meanwhile, James Pence, Morris’s co-owner, claimed that the police’s aggressive behavior only intensified the situation, describing how he was handcuffed after being approached by an officer demanding identification.
